Where’s Mike?

We are in the midst of another congressional recess and while there have been many local Mike Turner sightings, he still refuses to hold a public meeting. So we are set to hold a Town Hall and Issues Fair with or without Mike Turner. (Note: It’s very likely without Mike. Mike was invited, but didn’t RSVP by the 19th as requested.)

Your mission, if you choose to accept it, is to attend the Town Hall and learn about different state, local and national issues that DIFA and many other groups are organizing to address. Meet your fellow resistors, learn about some issues, and send a message to Mike that he cannot ignore.

April 21st, 7pm to 8pm.
721 Springfield St, Dayton, Ohio 45403

Turner Contradicts Himself

Many of you have seen the TV ad running on WHIO that asks viewers to call Mike Turner to thank him for “taking on Nancy Pelosi” and “special interests”, for “standing with President Trump to repeal Obamacare now,” and to “keep his pledge to the voters to repeal Obamacare.”
Based on the state of Mike’s Dayton and DC voicemail boxes, I would say it has people calling. According to Turner’s office, Turner does not support this ad and he did not have a hand in producing its content.

Here is what Turner had to say about the ACA repeal in March.
“After numerous discussions with the White House and the Speaker’s office, in an attempt to improve this bill, including discussions today, I could not support the bill in its current form. This legislation will result in people in my community losing health care coverage. Therefore, I could not support it.”

Vote Against Deportation Funding

Congress needs to pass a funding bill by April 28 of this year, or the government will shut down. And Donald Trump is using the budget process to ram through one of his most vicious policies.

Trump is requesting additional money (a “supplemental request”) in order to begin work on his border wall, expand his internal deportation force, and add more detention facilities to hold immigrants. This money will be used to rip apart American families, harm communities, and make us all less safe.

Paying for this will require cutting funding from essential programs that actually keep us safe and healthy—programs like education, housing, disease prevention, disaster response, and the Environmental Protection Agency.

“Hi, my name is [NAME], calling from [ADDRESS ].
I’m calling to ask is [REP NAME] is going to vote to approve money for the border wall and additional detention centers?

[If No] That is good to hear. Please thank [REP NAME] for supporting American families.

[If Yes] That is very disappointing to hear that [REP NAME] is supporting the fiscally irresponsible policies. This spending seems like a waste and can only hurt Ohio in the long run.

[If they do not know] I hope that [REP NAME] chooses to spend my money in a responsible manner. The wall is a gimmick, good for show but it will not be effective, but funding it will damage education, housing, disease prevention, disaster response, and the Environmental Protection Agency. Please take my information and contact me when [REP NAME] can go on record.

Thank you for your hard work answering the phones.”

Donald Trump and Conflicts of Interest

Donald Trump has innumerable potential conflicts of interest because of his business dealings and debts owed to foreign and domestic banks. Getting Trump’s tax information is important because it can expose these potential conflicts of interest. These documents can also serve as valuable proof if Trump is in violation of the Emoluments Clause of the Constitution, possible grounds for impeachment. Initially, Trump cited an audit as the reason he hadn’t yet released his tax documents. However, he has not yet produced proof of this audit, and audits do not prevent the release of returns.
