The Ohio Statehouse passed a budget bill yesterday that includes an attack on Medicaid expansion that could result in more than 500,000 people losing coverage. We need to make sure this gets vetoed!
Innovation Ohio says that the Ohio Budget limits access to Medicaid by:
Freezing the Medicaid expansion beginning in July, 2018,
Cutting off benefits to job-seekers & those on waiting lists for addiction treatment,
Terminating coverage for failure to pay a new monthly premium,
And just like its Congressional counterpart, the Ohio bill does all this while preserving an unproven tax giveaway to the rich and well-connected.
BY FRIDAY – Call Governor Kasich and ask him to veto all three limits on Medicaid enrollment in the state budget. He needs to hear from Ohioans in large numbers!
Call Kasich’s office at (614) 466-3555.
Today, please join us at two different events where we hope to be able to influence Sen. Portman’s health care vote:
1. Come show your support this morning at 9 am for Mayor Whaley and Commissioner Foley as they call on Sen. Portman to oppose the health care bill and stand up for Ohioans. They will be speaking on the steps of the old courthouse on the corner of 3rd and Main.
Good Morning! Let’s get right to work this week. The health care bill is expected to come to a vote in the Senate as soon as Thursday. We need to do everything we can to make sure Sen. Portman votes no when that happens. Today, we are asking you to do 3 things:
1. Call Portman’s office. Focus on the opioid crisis, medicaid expansion, and the potential loss of jobs across Ohio in health industries if this passes.
DC Office: 202-224-3353
Find call scripts here for different specific issues with the bill: https://www.trumpcareten.org/ohio
2. Call Gov. Kasich. He has already publicly registered opposition to the health care bill. Ask him to take it a step further and call on Portman personally to do the right thing for Ohio. We need Ohio leaders to put pressure on the Senator to VOTE NO.
Gov. Kasich’s office: (614) 466-3555
3. Stop by our phone bank this afternoon between 1-2:30 pm and make a few calls to other local elected leaders, asking them to publicly take a stance on the health care bill.
