Stand with Separated Families

Yesterday, more than 100 workers at a landscaping company in Sandusky Ohio were arrested during one of the largest immigration raids carried out so far under the Trump administration. According to local activists there, dozens of children were left stranded with child care providers after their parents were rounded up without warning. You can find more information about the raid here: https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/morning-mix/wp/2018/06/06/utter-chaos-ice-arrests-114-workers-in-immigration-raid-at-ohio-gardening-company/?utm_term=.1f60ac479db0

This raid comes only a few months after Trump announced that immigrants attempting to cross the Southwest border would be jailed and their children would be taken away from them and detained separately. Trump’s cruel and aggressive immigration policies are destroying families. We need to continue to stand with these families and make sure the administration and Congress knows we will not forget about this.

Here are a few actions you can take to support immigrant families:

1. Next week, join us at Turner’s office to protest this inhumane policy. You can find event details here: https://www.facebook.com/events/380568565789960/

2. Contact your MOCs and demand that they hold ICE accountable for their attacks on families. You can use the script below:

Call Mike Turner at 202-225-6465

Call Rob Portman at 202-224-3353

Call Sherrod Brown at 202-224-2315

Script: Hi. I’m from [ZIP] calling to ask [name] to hold ICE accountable for their actions.  ICE is causing lifelong developmental trauma in children by separating them from their parents. ICE is imprisoning legal asylum seekers for indefinite amounts of time with limited access to legal counsel and without periodic bond hearings. I don’t want my tax dollar to support an agency that inflicts neglect, abuse, and fatalities without consequence and targets workers and families for harassment. I stand with immigrants-rights groups insisting on: 1. Keeping families together, and 2. Defunding ICE and CBP.

3. Support legal representation for 60 detained kids and their families.
